- Realizing University Visions of Human
Respect, Global Village, Practical Learning
Ajou University, which celebrates its 50th
anniversary in 2023, declared the “Ajou Vision 2023” on November 6 and took its
first step toward joining the world’s top 100 universities. Having practiced
its visions, “Human respect,” “Global village,” and “Practical learning” for
the last 35 years to earn its place among Korea’s top universities, Ajou
University is now taking a leap forward to become a prestigious university of
the world.
With the motto a
"World-class University
that leads convergent areas” for its “Ajou Vision 2023” in tune with “practical
learning,” Ajou University plans to put its short- and long-range master plans
into action in three steps, each 5 years in length, over a total of 15 years. It
aims to join the list of Korea’s
top 10 universities by 2013, the ranks of Korea’s top 5 private universities
by 2018, and earn a place among the world’s top 100 universities by 2023.
The vision declaration ceremony was held
along with a variety of additional events including a blood donation campaign
and “International Day,” among others.
Ajou University plans to donate the blood
certificates raised during the “Vision 2023 Blood Donation Campaign” to foreign
laborers working for small and medium companies in Gyeonggi province. As part
of its vision, “Human Respect,” the event was held with the President of Ajou
University Moon Ho SUH, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and others in attendance.
Also, the 13th “Ajou
International Day 2008” featured a variety of traditional clothing and food
prepared by foreign exchange students and foreign students who came from some
40 countries around the world to study at Ajou University. Several foreign
ambassadors to Korea
including the ambassadors of Sudan,
Pakistan, and Dominican Republic
participated in the event.
Kim Min-Koo, the Vice President for Planning,
mentioned that Ajou University has laid out its detailed action plan to
becoming a world-class university in all areas including education, research,
and administration, adding that the university is putting the plan into action
systematically. As part of efforts to carry out the plan, Ajou University
is working on the 1010 project, which aims to cultivate 10 outstanding research
groups and 10 outstanding education groups. The university is particularly
committed to the cultivation of the top-notch research group in convergent
disciplines.
Currently, Ajou University works in
partnership with 152 universities in 43 countries for various exchange
programs. Some 1,000 students from 51 countries visit Ajou University every year. Currently, 235 degree-program students from 33 countries, 115
exchange students from 18 countries, and 160 students in the language program
from 16 countries are studying at Ajou University.
